Sr. Technical Writer, Professional Services. Authors integration/support docs and merchant-facing technical documentation.

Sr. Technical Writer, Professional Services

PayPal is the industry leader in online and mobile payments and provides a fast-paced environment where teams work with cutting-edge technologies. Technical writers in the Professional Services (PS) Knowledge Management (KM) team work closely with our internal stakeholders, including product development, integration engineering, and technical support to deliver the right level of content to our merchants, developers and technical customers so they can implement and maintain our products.

To be effective in this role, you must be able to:

  • Work with stakeholders to create and maintain a prioritized roadmap of KM assets.

  • Manage and deliver against this content roadmap.

  • Convey technical concepts in concise user documentation.

  • Edit contributor content and coach contributors to help them submit technically accurate and usable content.

  • Help evolve our KM tools, standards, and platforms to create a world-class KM system.

We'll provide you with a first-hand understanding of our products, business objectives, and customers so you can craft assets that dovetail and improve our content. This is an ideal position for candidates with a strong work ethic and a desire to work closely with technical and non-technical team members to build world-class documentation.

  • Understand the technical and business needs of your audiences.

  • Manage content and KM inventory to ensure internal and external customer needs are met in a timely manner.

  • Manage a content roadmap and delivery plan.

  • Work with subject matter experts to create and update content to ensure it is culturally appropriate, well-written, accurate, and approved by compliance/legal or other bodies, if required.

  • Create, adapt, and maintain KM content for the various channels for multiple markets.

  • Adhere to processes and use specified content tools to create and deliver content.

  • Spot and fix bugs to support continuous content improvement.

  • Where applicable, review and modify translations delivered by localization teams to ensure the translation is accurate and complies with the corresponding style and voice and tone guidelines.

  • Provide editorial support to other writers and markets, as needed.

  • Work with cross-functional team to improve the end-to-end customer experience.

  • Seek feedback, trends, and insights from teammates to improve processes.

  • Fluent written and spoken English.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills.

  • Experience with authoring tools and environments such as HTML, Markdown, GitHub, Confluence, and so on.

  • Software development skills are a plus.

  • Seven or more years in the technical writing industry.

  • Ability to work within tight and often-changing deadlines.

  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively to diverse individuals globally.

  • Ability to work independently, but also happy to collaborate with other writers and developers.

  • Ability to organize your own work with minimal supervision and be able to meet tight project deadlines.

  • Relationship-building skills to collaborate with internal subject-matter experts and external customers.

  • Participates in group decision making. Demonstrates willingness to help when needed and actively shares knowledge.

  • Manages issues effectively. Deals with challenges constructively and positively. Maintains productivity and high-performance levels under pressure.

  • Writing samples required.

We're a purpose-driven company whose beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We hold ourselves to our One Team Behaviors which demand that we hold the highest ethical standards, to empower an open and diverse workplace, and strive to treat everyone who is touched by our business with dignity and respect.
