Job Description

The Pricing team is responsible for the systems that support fee and foreign exchange (FX) for PayPal’s payments system. Other systems that are developed and supported by the team provide for the ability to set up experiments in price sensitivity as well as suggest optimal pricing strategies based on historical data.

What you’ll do

• Be a technical leader within your team and within PayPal in general

• Be a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team

• Build new APIs to enhance the portfolio of PayPal’s 3rd most popular service.

• Build performance-sensitive systems that serve tens of millions of requests each day.

• Build and take operational responsibility for Java/C++ services that serve millions of users

• Be an active voice in architectural decisions for PayPal’s core payments system

• Being a Technical Manager, you will manage a talented team of 10 engineers with a mix of Senior and Junior engineers, lead the design discussion as required

• Partner with cross-vertical teams across geographies, enable your team to clear road blocks and ensures timely delivery

• Responsible for overall delivery of the team and following good development practices across all engineering processes

• Work with PO/APM/DTLs to analyze/ help prioritize requirements

• Mentor engineers, complete their appraisal and help them grow in their career

Who you are * You call Linux and Vim as your best buddies. * You know how to write highly scalable and distributed Java services. * You drive technical projects and take pride in building systems that are used by millions of users every day. * You have experience in developing mid-tier services in a service-oriented architecture (SOA). * You have worked on traditional and non-traditional SORs from Oracle to Couchbase and Cassandra * You think Agile is the way to go for faster development until something better comes along. * You have great communication skills. * You think POC (proof of concept) is the faster way to prove a point. * You are passionate about PayPal and its mission to “build the Web’s most convenient, secure, cost-effective payment solution.” * You are well versed in understanding and analyzing requirements, to produce accurate estimation of timescales for work items * You are a self-starter, can make decisions without always asking others "what has to be done" * You have experience working with remote teams and understand the nuances of being a team player * You live "Customer First" attitude, exhibit a great sense of ownership, understand the need to monitoring, triaging and fixing issues on Live before Customer reports it Work in a scrum team implementing feature functionality in the Pricing system. Answering queries about the Pricing system for clients, tracking down and fixing defects. Being involved in design meetings to propose, discuss and refine new features and functionality.Demonstrable programming abilities in C++, Java – other languages like Python, AngularJS a plus. Understanding of basic algorithmic techniques, design patterns and best practices. Curiosity about how things work and the behavior of finding the answers. Flexible and adapting the changing circumstances, tenacious.Knowledge/experience with software languages such as C++, Java, Python, NodeJS Knowledge/experience with Unix. Knowledge/experience with relational databases, NoSQL databases. Knowledge/experience with applying Big O Notation to algorithms. Knowledge/experience with GitHub. Knowledge/experience with Service Oriented Architectures.
