Job Description

A typical day for the Legal Counsel will include:

• Providing practical legal advice across a broad range of company departments (especially

marketing, sales and customer service)

• Assisting the PayPal DEATCH and wider European Legal team with research in German and

European law and administrative tasks

• Preparing, reviewing, negotiating and finalizing contracts

• Autonomous advice and support of projects

What does Success Look Like?

  • You are a much appreciated member of the DEATCH and wider European Legal team.

  • You have built good working relationships with all company departments.

  • You worked with teams across the business including Marketing in developing new campaigns.

  • You are commercially focused and have the ability to provide high-quality legal advice while make yourself understood by non-legal people.

  • You worked with the PayPal business teams to advice on the development and implementation of new products and services including the regulatory and business risk implications.

  • You helped to develop and build the wider, non-legal team’s understanding of relevant laws and regulations in a creative and engaging way, to encourage a culture of compliance and responsibility.

  • You dealt with regulatory issues, advised on the impact of new and existing payment laws and regulations and local governance and compliance matters.

About You

  • You are a fully qualified lawyer with German university degree in law and completed legal clerkship / Second Legal State Exam (“Zweites Staatsexamen”).

  • You are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize effectively.

  • You have excellent communication skills in German and English; any other (European) language would be a plus.

  • You have a good sense of humor.

  • You have an ability to apply the law to novel situations and to demonstrate the ability to find pragmatic and creative solutions to business issues where appropriate.
