Job Description

As a team leader within Risk Operations, you will build, develop, coach and lead a team of employees into a high performing team that is delivering consultative approach towards risk in order to serve our customers, community and organisation.

Core duties:

Talent management:

  • Participate in teammate selection, internal talent movement, and training needs assessment and closure of knowledge gaps.

  • Serve as consultant/coach for teammates, the merchant and PayPal Inc.

  • Demonstrates the ability to make sound decisions at a higher risk exposure level.

  • Manages workforce efficiently and effectively

Subject matter expert:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for teammates and the organisation

  • Complete the required quality checks to help coach to perform a holistic review of accounts by balancing risk assessment with merchant growth potential.

  • Works cases and escalations as required

  • Demonstrates ability to drive positive merchant engagement

Project management:

  • Possess high level of initiative, and a pro-active approach to risk

  • Identifies trends and validates potential larger impact to portfolio for further escalation

Core Requirements:

Holistic Review:

  • Guide specialists to investigate merchant E2E

  • Communicate and lead through all roles of MRC:Risk, Relationship Manager, Sales, Negotiator, and Investigator

Balanced Approach:

  • Act as an expert SME decision maker

  • Escalation management

Merchant Education:

  • Effectively communicate to teammates how to influence the right outcomes and build relationships with the merchants, team and partners


  • Own the performance of our team and the impact to the overall business

  • Ownership of the impact of your team’s decision and the overall experience


  • Strong communication skills in all formats and ability to effectively communicate with teammates, peer leaders and management

  • Ability to direct and motivate others to achieve desired outcome

Experience required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

  • Master’s Degree preferred

  • 3+ year experience in one or more of the following areas: Customer Support, Financial Services, Fraud Investigation, Credit Risk, Transaction Processing, or Chargeback Processing

  • 3 years supervisory experience preferred
