Job Description

As the Head of Data Analytics, you will be charged with leading multiple cross-company initiatives and analyses to deliver quality work on time with multiple, competing priorities. You will also be responsible for establishing and implementing Venmo’s future data strategy. This person will balance urgent and effective action, commit to excellence, and take initiative to resolve problems; hold internal stakeholders accountable where appropriate. This role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Things you’ll do:

  • Lead teams of Data Analysts and partner closely with the Data Engineer team.● Initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance● Create and execute a data strategy and vision that is easy to articulate to the business

  • Build and maintain a scalable, flexible, extensible data architecture and platform that drives business and technology needs across the enterprise.

  • Identify & develop new, innovative data solution business cases

  • Interact with other technical and product teams to support design and use of applications and data mining tools for effective real time reporting and analytics.

  • Interact with the enterprise to understand the types of information and data needed to support their efforts; provide ongoing direction and analyses of trends and opportunities and ensure data integrity and service support levels by measuring key processes and integrating improvements.

  • Evaluate and ensure that current procedures and practices are appropriate for accomplishing department objectives, and that supporting financial reporting requirements are adequately documented and operating within policy.

  • Oversee specifications for proposed development and management of intellectual capital related to data outputs and capabilities.

  • Guidance and leadership of processes and projects that will help to track, analyze and develop metrics to identify trends and patterns within the existing data as well as data acquired externally.

  • Work in a Python (or R), SQL, Data pipelines environment

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor and/or Masters in Computer Science or a related field of study

  • 10+ years experience in Data Science or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience in managing data teams

  • Deep statistical knowledge and experience

  • Deep knowledge of SQL and Python (or another language with object-oriented principles)

  • Experience working with various types of data infrastructures (cloud, open-source, distributed systems, structured/unstructured databases)

  • Ability to maintain focus and discipline in a fast paced and evolving industry / org

  • Experience leading and defining company-wide KPIs

  • Deep understanding of how analytics drives / fits into projects and initiatives at all stages

  • Experience with creating data services and ETLs to cater to different types of end-users (analysts, data scientists, developers, PMs etc.)

  • Experience working with various types of data infrastructures (cloud, open-source, distributed systems, structured/unstructured databases)

  • Experience leading teams implementing processes from business requirements through logical modeling; database design; data sourcing, transformation and loading; SQL; end-user tools; and performance tuning

  • Outstanding communication skills, permitting complex technical matters to be understood by business professionals

  • Ability to communicate technical data and engineering concepts to non-technical

  • Strong communication, listening, and negotiation skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner
