PayPal First Line of Defense Center of Excellence Business Analysis team is looking for a talented, creative, and passionate data engineer to design and develop data solutions on one of the largest data platforms in the world. As a self-motivated and enthusiastic member of our team, you will:
• Work with extremely talented peers in a fun environment building performance efficient, highly scalable, configurable solutions spanning multiple technologies and platforms – Hadoop, HBase, Teradata, Oracle, Terracotta Server Array (in-memory data management), SAS, Tableau, Microstrategy, Informtica, Golden gate, Kafka etc.
• Partner with Risk and Compliance users to define, analyze, document their analytical and operational data needs.
• Identify potential solutions, shortlist and compare them. Finalize the solution by collaboration with business.
• Create design documents that describe the functionality, capacity, architecture, and process.
• Develop, test and implement data solutions based on finalized design documents.
• You should be comfortable working in an agile environment and with cross-functional teams, should have appetite to learn and be flexible to pick up new technology.
• Proactively identify potential production issues and recommend and implement solutions.
Very strong server-side Java experience, especially in an open source, data-intensive, distributed environment.
Experience with open source products.
In-depth knowledge of Java, Python and Shell scripting.
Experience in working with batch processing/ real-time systems using various open source technologies like Solr, Hadoop, NoSQL, Spark, Pig, Hive, etc.
Strong understanding of database principles, SQL, and experience working with large databases beyond just data access.
Implemented complex projects dealing with the considerable data size (PB).
Good understanding of algorithms, data structure, and performance optimization techniques (performance, scalability, monitoring, etc.)
Strong understanding of database principles, SQL, and experience working with large databases beyond just data access
Experience with version control systems, particularly GIT
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Bachelors/Masters Degree in relevant field and 3-5 years programming experience
