The Monitoring Team in Core Platform Infrastructure provides the platform to monitor all PayPal applications and infrastructure. We are in the process of a major redesign of our monitoring solution, utilizing ML, push notifications and the latest application design patterns to reduce noise and streamline our monitoring tools for PayPal SRE. We are looking for a talented UX engineer to contribute ideas, skills and experience. Help us shape the future of PayPal by building a best-of-breed monitoring system!

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Be one of the primary contributors to our UX future. Develop wireframes, HTML prototypes, and related UX deliverables in concert with product owners, engineers and select users.

  • Contribute to our thin-server, single-page applications with occasional dips into the full stack. Our platform utilizes an assortment of tools for specific problems sets including NodeJS, RxJS, Angular and Typescript.

  • Collaborate effectively with application development teams, design and product owners.

  • Contribute to and evangelize our programming standards and guidelines. Use an an open-source mindset, ie encourage usage of patterns and tools that foster outside collaboration and contribution.

  • Prioritize workload to meet deadlines for assignments.

  • Build quality software through spec driven development and test automation utilizing our continuous integration pipeline and continuous delivery systems.

  • Stay current with the newest open source technologies, make recommendations on implementation choices, and be an advocate for using the right tool given both project requirements, team knowledge and company maintainability standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience with modern JavaScript/ECMAscript development patterns and frameworks such as Angular, React, VueJS, and the related tooling ecosystem.

  • A portfolio of UX work, showing both wireframes and high-fidelity design assets. Experience with developing style guides and contributing to UI libraries preferred.

  • Experience in developing well-tested, high-performance web applications that can scale both team wise and performance wise.

  • Experience with Github, Gitlab, and/or other version control systems that include developer collaboration features.

  • Prior work experience with enterprise level developer facing web applications

  • Familiarity with the Agile development process

Minimum Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, HTML, SVG, Canvas, and related HTML5 API's.

  • Solid knowledge of basic algorithms. Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills demonstrated through online or in-person coding exercises.

  • Demonstrated ability to debug web applications, with an emphasis on single-page applications.

  • Understanding of web technologies (http, cookies, REST APIs, DOM)

  • Understanding of established software design patterns.

  • Good interpersonal communication skills including clear writing and documentation samples.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.

  • A strong passion for producing quality software and web user interfaces.

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, or closely related quantitative discipline plus five (5) years of experience in the job offered or Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, or closely related quantitative discipline plus five (5) years of experience in the job offered or five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of software engineering.

Bonus

  • Examples of code, especially Github links or a profile showing contribution to open source projects.

  • Experience building a theme-based style-guide-driven UI framework, or utilizing one in UX design.
