Hiring a senior payments professional to fulfill our Payment Product and Engineering requirements for the Japan market. This individual will need to have an understanding of regulations, networks, and emerging technologies and understand the flow and economics of payments. Prior experience running the Payments area of a Digital Wallet or Large merchant is desired.

The Payment Product and Engineering team is responsible for the design, development and optimization of PayPal's core payment systems and payment methods. This position will be responsible for looking after PayPal's payment capabilities and partnerships in Japan optimizing around the KPI's of performance, cost and revenue enablement.

The Sr Manager- Payments Markets & Partnerships Japan will work with the local Japan team in formulating the strategy, development, maintenance and optimization of PayPal’s payment methods in Japan. The position will also require business development skills working with Financial Insitutions to work with PayPal as a digital platform for their user base and provide PayPal’s digital wallet capabilities to their consumers. Responsibilities will include managing relationships and contracts with our payment network partners, schemes, and financial institutions. This individual will also be responsible for building out local partnerships with these institutions to drive new business, acquire customers and drive activity. This position requires strong critical and strategic thinking, understanding of product management, and be able to create business requirements for our payment products. This position will be based in Tokyo.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive the sourcing and delivery of new products and partnerships that optimize our KPI's of transaction expense and revenue enablement.

  • Manage a portfolio of partnerships in Japan and be the first point of contact for the relationship and the PayPal business.

  • Analysis and optimization of our payment solutions and make recommendations to improve success rates, STP rates and lower costs.

  • Negotiate contracts with local service providers and payments partners.

  • Manage Business development opportunities with Financial Institutions, Card companies and Payment processors.

  • Be the payments expert for the local business and the face of PayPal to the payment industry particiapants including banks, networks, and schemes.

  • Strategize on the future of payments in the Japan market and develop plans to partner with industry players to further digitize and democratize payments

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of payments including processing, settlement, and local and scheme regulations

  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills and ability to apply payments expertise to real life situations.

  • Experience working with payments industry participants and relationships with processors, schemes and financial institutions.

  • Understanding of payment economics and history

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills including negotiations, contract management, and business development.

  • Ability to work in a cross functional environment with proven track record of delivering projects.
